Event Details

In this 15-hour course, teachers will read a practical, teacher-tested resource book that is packed with ideas and examples for planning, organizing, and teaching lessons to address a wide range of academic objectives. Each week, participants will meet to share their insights and questions with colleagues. Together, everyone will discover better ways to address state standards and boost student achievement.

The course text is Content-Area Writing: Every Teacher's Guide by Harvey Daniels, S. Zemelman, and N. Steineke.  This text was used for a regional GVWP book study last year, and all participating teachers gave it an enthusiastic recommendation.

This text is designed for teachers in all content areas who are juggling broad curriculum mandates, thick textbooks, and severe time constraints. It offers clear options for designing and facilitating everyday assignments in ways that promote deeper thinking and learningIt shows how incorporating certain types of writing activities into lessons will increase understanding and achievement, and it also explains how writing can actually save, not consume, valuable instructional time.
